Shoo-Fly Pie

Mix flour and sugar; cut in butter to make crumb mixture.
Set aside.
Mix soda, spices, molasses and hot water.
Put 1/3 crumb mixture in bottom of pie crust.
Pour in liquid.
Put rest of crumb mixture on top.
Put 4 holes in crumb mixture and let some liquid come through.
Bake at 450\u00b0 for 15 minutes, then reduce to 350\u00b0 for 20 minutes.
This is a \"wet bottom\" Shoo-Fly pie.

Shoo-Fly Pie

Mix molasses, syrup, soda and water together for bottom of pie.
Make crumbs with flour, oleo and brown sugar for top part of pie.
Bake at 400\u00b0 for 10 minutes, then at 350\u00b0 for about 25 minutes longer or until done.

Shoo-Fly Pie

Combine flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.
Add sugar and salt.
Cut in oleo or butter with a pastry blender to consistency of coarse meal.
Dissolve soda in boiling water.
Add molasses and egg and blend well.
Pour 1/2 of the liquid mixture into pie shell.
Sprinkle 1/4 of flour mix over liquid.
Stir very gently. Pour in remaining liquid.
Top with rest of flour mix.
Bake at 400\u00b0 for 10 minutes.
Reduce heat to 325\u00b0.
Bake until filling is set and crust golden.

Shoo-Fly-Pie

Mix flour, Crisco and sugar.
Put aside a little of this crumb mix for top of pie.
Combine molasses and water; add baking soda. Combine dry ingredients and liquid mixture.
Put in unbaked pie crust.
Sprinkle crumbs on top and bake in 325\u00b0 oven about 1 hour.

Shaker Kentucky Shoo Fly Pie

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Sift together the flour, sugar and soda; cut the butter into the flour mixture. Set aside.
Combine molasses and boiling water, stirring until molasses melt.
Pour 1/3 of the molasses mix into the pie shell. Top with 1/3 of the crumb mix. Alternate the layers, ending with the crumbs.
Bake for 35 minutes. Cool to lukewarm before cutting.

Shoo-Fly Pie

Mix flour, sugar, shortening and coconut to form crumbs. Reserve 1/2 cup for topping.
In another bowl, mix egg, honey and 3/4 cup hot water.
Add dry mixture.
Dissolve soda in remaining 1/4 cup hot water and add to mixture.
Pour into pie shell and sprinkle crumbs on top.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 35 minutes.
This pie will keep for several days without refrigeration.

Shoo-Fly Cake

Mix crumb ingredients (flour, shortening, brown sugar and salt) together.
Set aside 1 cup.
Mix ingredients for liquid (molasses, baking soda and hot water) and combine with crumbs. Pour into greased 9 x 13 x 2-inch pan.
Sprinkle 1 cup crumbs over top.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 35 to 40 minutes.
This cake has a moist bottom like the Shoo-Fly Pie.

Shoo-Fly Pie (Pennsylvania Dutch Pie)

Cut butter into small bits; reserve 2 tablespoons for on top. Dissolve soda in hot water.
Stir in molasses.
Pour in unbaked shell.
Mix dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder and soda.
Spread mixture into shell.
Bake at 425\u00b0 for 15 minutes.
Reduce to 350\u00b0 for 25 minutes or until the center is firm.
Sprinkle 2 tablespoons mix (reserved) on top.
Bake 10 minutes.
Serves 8.

Shoo-Fly Pie

Preheat oven to 375\u00b0. Prepare crumb topping by combining flour, brown sugar and shortening in bowl until mixture resembles course meal. In another bowl, dissolve soda in boiling water. Add molasses and corn syrup; blend well. Pour into unbaked pie shell and sprinkle crumbs evenly over the top. Bake in the middle of the oven for 10 minutes. Reduce heat and continue to bake for 35 minutes or until filling is set. Do not overbake!

Shoo-Fly Pie

Mix the flour, brown sugar and shortening well.
Take out 1 cup for tops.
In remainder, add the syrup, eggs and baking soda. Mix real good.
Pour into the pie crusts. Top with crumbs.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour.

Shoo-Fly Pie(Makes 2 Pies.)

Mix flour, brown sugar and butter like pie crust.
Reserve 2 cups of the crumbs for topping.
Add to remaining of crumbs the eggs, molasses or syrup and 1 1/2 cups hot tap water.
Mix well. Dissolve in 1/2 cup hot water the soda.
Add to other ingredients. Put into 2 unbaked pie shells. Add crumbs.
Bake at 350\u00b0 about 30 to 35 minutes until set.

Cake-Type Shoo-Fly Pie

Combine flour, brown sugar and baking powder.
Stir to blend. Cut in margarine to make crumbs.
Combine molasses, water, baking soda and cinnamon.
Pur 1/3 molasses mixture into pie shell.
Add 1/3 crumb mixture. Continue alternating the 2 mixtures, ending with crumb mixture.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 40 minutes.

"Wet Shoo-Fly Pie"

Combine molasses, syrup and water; stir in soda.
Beat a little of molasses mixture with egg.
Stir egg mixture into mixture.
Mix flour, butter and brown sugar into crumbs.
Mix 1 cup crumbs into the molasses mixture; pour into pie shell.
Top with remaining crumbs.
Bake at 400\u00b0 for 20 to 25 minutes.

Shoo-Fly Pie

Preheat the oven to 350\u00b0.
Combine the flour, brown sugar, butter or margarine and salt and rub the mixture between the hands to form crumbs.
Dissolve the baking soda in the water and combine with the molasses.
Pour into pie shell.
Sprinkle with crumbs. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until filling is set.
Yields 6 servings.

Wet Crust Shoo-Fly Pie

Mix flour, brown sugar and shortening.
Reserve 3/4 cup mixture
for topping.
To remainder add other filling ingredients. Beat well.
Pour into pie
shell.
Add reserved crumbs. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 25 minutes.

Shoo-Fly Pie

Line 2 pie pans with pastry.
Make crumbs by combining flour, sugar, salt and shortening.
Dissolve soda in hot water and combine molasses.
Add 3/4 cup crumbs, pour into pastry lined pans and top with remaining crumbs.
Bake in very hot oven at 450\u00b0 for 10 minutes.
Reduce to 350\u00b0 for 20 to 30 minutes more.

Reserve 1/2 cup crumbs.
Mix molasses, baking soda and water until soda is entirely dissolved and mixture becomes slightly foamy.
Pour into unbaked pie shell and sprinkle reserved 1/2 cup crumbs on top.
Bake at 450\u00b0 for 10 minutes, then at 350\u00b0 for 20 to 30 minutes until firm.

*Shoo-Fly Pie

Mix dry ingredients together, cutting Crisco into mixture. After taking out some for top crust, add raisins, molasses, hot water and soda.
Place batter in unbaked pie crusts.
Place balance of crumbs on top.
Bake in a 350\u00b0 oven for about 45 minutes.
Test pie with toothpick by inserting it into the center; if toothpick comes out without filling on it, the pie is done.
