Shoo-Fly Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. light molasses
    1 egg yolk, beaten
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    3/4 c. boiling water
    3/4 c. all-purpose flour
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    2 Tbsp. butter, margarine or shortening
    1/8 tsp. ginger
    1/8 tsp. cloves
    1/8 tsp. nutmeg
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. salt
    9-inch pie shell, unbaked
Preparation
    Pour 3/4 cup hot water over soda in small bowl. Stir to dissolve. Beat in molasses and egg yolk, combining well.
    In medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt and spices, mixing well. Add butter.
    Using fingers, rub into flour mixture to make crumbs. Sprinkle 1/4 crumb mixture in bottom of pie shell. Top with 1/3 molasses mixture.
    Continue layering, ending with crumb mixture on top.
    Preheat oven to 350\u00b0. Bake pie for 35 minutes or until filling is firm to the touch when lightly pressed with fingertip. Serve pie warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.
