Shoo-Fly Pie

Mix flour and sugar; cut in butter to make crumb mixture.
Set aside.
Mix soda, spices, molasses and hot water.
Put 1/3 crumb mixture in bottom of pie crust.
Pour in liquid.
Put rest of crumb mixture on top.
Put 4 holes in crumb mixture and let some liquid come through.
Bake at 450\u00b0 for 15 minutes, then reduce to 350\u00b0 for 20 minutes.
This is a \"wet bottom\" Shoo-Fly pie.

Pa'S Shoo-Fly Pie

Combine molasses, baking soda and boiling water.
Pour into pie shell.
Combine flour, brown sugar, shortening, salt and baking powder in a bowl.
Blend to the consistency of coarse meal. Spread crumb mixture over the molasses mixture.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 35 to 40 minutes or until pie tests done.

Good 'N Plenty Pennsylvania Dutch Shoo-Fly Pie

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0F.
Liquid:
Dissolve baking soda in water.
Stir in molasses and one beaten egg (take care not to scramble the egg, tempering it is advised.).
Crumbs:
Mix flour, shortening, brown sugar, salt and cinnamon.
Form the mixture into crumbs.
Pour the liquid mixture in an unbaked pie shell, then add the crumbs to the top and bake for 30 minutes.

Pennsylvania Dutch Shoo Fly Pie

Line 9-inch pie plate with pastry.
Mix molasses and egg yolk.
Dissolve soda in boiling water and add to egg and molasses.
Set aside.
Stir dry ingredients together, mixing well.
Cut in shortening until mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
Pour molasses into pie shell.
Sprinkle crumbs evenly over top.
Do not stir.
Bake at 450 degrees F. 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 degrees F. and bake 20 minutes longer.
Cool and serve.

Dissolve 1 teaspoon soda in hot water.
Mix with molasses. Stir until well mixed and set aside.
Then mix and sift together flour and soda and add sugar and shortening.
Work with fingertips to make crumbs.
Pour soda water and molasses mixture into unbaked pie shell.
Sprinkle crumbs evenly over mixture.
Bake in preheated 375\u00b0 oven for 10 minutes, then at 350\u00b0 for 40 to 50 minutes, until done.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Sift together the flour, sugar and soda; cut the butter into the flour mixture. Set aside.
Combine molasses and boiling water, stirring until molasses melt.

Mix flour, sugar, shortening and coconut to form crumbs. Reserve 1/2 cup for topping.
In another bowl, mix egg, honey and 3/4 cup hot water.
Add dry mixture.
Dissolve soda in remaining 1/4 cup hot water and add to mixture.
Pour into pie shell and sprinkle crumbs on top.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 35 minutes.
This pie will keep for several days without refrigeration.

Mix flour, sugar and shortening together with hands to make crumbs.
Take out 1/3 cup of crumbs for top.
Be sure water is boiling; add molasses.
Take off heat. Dissolve soda in vinegar and add to molasses and water; pour into crumbs.
Mix until smooth.
Put into unbaked pastry shell. Sprinkle the 1/3 cup of crumbs over top.
This makes one 9-inch pie.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 35 minutes; it is done when toothpick comes out clean.

Shoo-Fly Cake

Mix crumb ingredients (flour, shortening, brown sugar and salt) together.
Set aside 1 cup.
Mix ingredients for liquid (molasses, baking soda and hot water) and combine with crumbs. Pour into greased 9 x 13 x 2-inch pan.
Sprinkle 1 cup crumbs over top.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 35 to 40 minutes.
This cake has a moist bottom like the Shoo-Fly Pie.

Stir together flour, sugar and baking powder.
Cut in butter. In a separate bowl, mix molasses, baking soda and water.
Stir in salt, egg and two cups of flour-butter mixture.
Pour into prepared pie shells and sprinkle with remaining crumbs.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 45 minutes.

Mix flour, brown sugar and butter like pie crust.
Reserve 2 cups of the crumbs for topping.
Add to remaining of crumbs the eggs, molasses or syrup and 1 1/2 cups hot tap water.
Mix well. Dissolve in 1/2 cup hot water the soda.
Add to other ingredients. Put into 2 unbaked pie shells. Add crumbs.
Bake at 350\u00b0 about 30 to 35 minutes until set.

Shoo-Fly Pie

Preheat oven to 375\u00b0. Prepare crumb topping by combining flour, brown sugar and shortening in bowl until mixture resembles course meal. In another bowl, dissolve soda in boiling water. Add molasses and corn syrup; blend well. Pour into unbaked pie shell and sprinkle crumbs evenly over the top. Bake in the middle of the oven for 10 minutes. Reduce heat and continue to bake for 35 minutes or until filling is set. Do not overbake!

In remainder, add the syrup, eggs and baking soda. Mix real good.
Pour into the pie crusts. Top with crumbs.

Cake-Type Shoo-Fly Pie

Combine flour, brown sugar and baking powder.
Stir to blend. Cut in margarine to make crumbs.
Combine molasses, water, baking soda and cinnamon.
Pur 1/3 molasses mixture into pie shell.
Add 1/3 crumb mixture. Continue alternating the 2 mixtures, ending with crumb mixture.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 40 minutes.
