World War 1 Cake

Put first 6 ingredients in a saucepan.
Bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes.
Add shortening.
Cool.
Add soda that was dissolved in small amount hot water.
Add flour and baking powder and stir until well blended.
Pour into greased tube pan and bake at 325\u00b0 for 1 hour.

World War 1 Cake

In the evening, mix together the first 9 ingredients in a large pot. Bring 4 cups water to a boiling point. Pour hot water over mixture and boil for 5 minutes. Let stand overnight to cool.
Next morning, sift together twice the flour and baking soda, and stir into cold mixture. Add currants and cherries. Pour into 4 loaf pans, and bake at 325F for about 1 1/2 hours.
Cool completely, then wrap in foilwrap.

Chicken Dinner In Foil

lace 3 Tbsp. raw rice in center of foil.
Sprinkle

1 Dish Pork Chops

Mix brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce together for sauce.
Quickly brown pork chops on both sides in a deep skillet and put onion slice, then the apple, then the yam on top of each pork chop.
Pour the sauce over.
Put lid on and cook on low on top of the stove or 325\u00b0 in oven for 1 hour.
You may add raisins if desired.

Sausage In The Pot

Cut X's in sausage at 1-inch intervals.
Brown sausage, scored side down, in oil in kettle, turning often.
Add to kettle the potatoes, carrots, turnips, celery and onions.
Add water.
Add parsley sprigs, peppercorns and bay leaf.
Bring to boil; reduce heat and cover.
Simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until vegetables are tender.
Remove sausage to center of serving platter; arrange vegetables around sausage.
Serve with a loaf of crusty bread.
Serves 6.

Back during World War II, when sugar was rationed, we ate a lot of gingerbread sweetened with our own honey and molasses.

War Cake (World War I)

Boil first 9 ingredients for 3 minutes.
Add preserves, then add baking powder and the flour to make a stiff batter.
Pour in tube pan.
Bake in moderate oven.

War Cake

Boil raisins and water or coffee a little.
Add shortening while raisins and water are still hot.
Cool.
Add remaining ingredients.
Bake 30 to 40 minutes at 350\u00b0.
(Mom said that this was made often during World War II.
The ingredients were more easily found during rationing and only a little sugar was needed.)

World War #2 Cake

In a saucepan, mix brown sugar, 1 1/2 cups water, shortening, raisins, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.
Bring to a boil and boil 3 minutes.
Set aside to cool.
Preheat oven to 325\u00b0.
Dissolve salt and baking soda in 2 teaspoons of water.
Add salt and soda mixture to raisins and spice mixture.
Blend in flour and baking powder.
Turn batter into a lightly greased and floured 8-inch square pan.
Bake 45 to 50 minutes.

World War Ii Raisin Squares

World War Cake(Copyright 1908 - 1933)

Boil together for 3 minutes the sugar, water, fruit, shortening, spices and salt.
Let cool, then add the flour and baking powder, sifted together and the vanilla.
Mix well and bake in a well-greased loaf pan in moderate oven for about 45 minutes.

Butterscotch Pudding Cake(World War Ii, Sugarless)

Mix together margarine and pudding mix.
Add eggs and syrup, then milk with soda, then dry ingredients and vanilla.
Bake in 350\u00b0 oven for 20 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when stuck in the middle of cake.

Original Salvation Army World War I Doughnuts

Put flour in shallow pan; add salt, baking powder, sugar and spices.
Rub in butter with fingertips.
Add the well beaten egg and milk and stir thoroughly.
Toss on floured board.
Roll to 1/4-inch thickness.
Shape, fry and drain.

World War I Cake

Boil together 5 minutes the first 7 ingredients.
After mixture begins to bubble, set aside to get cold.
Add flour and soda, dissolved in water.
Mix well.
Bake in greased tube pan 45 minutes at 350\u00b0.

Almond Chocolate Cake(With Mayonnaise - World War Ii)

Combine dates, soda and chocolate in mixing bowl.
Pour boiling water over date mixture; let cool to lukewarm.
Stir in brown sugar and mayonnaise, then add flour and almonds.

Creamed Beef On Toast Or S.O.S.(As Vernon Sehrt And Walter Rice Remembered It From World War 2)

World War Ii Pudding

Mix dry ingredients; add milk, butter and vanilla.
Pour into greased pan.
Mix syrup and boiling water.
Stir in cocoa and pour over batter.
Bake at 350\u00b0 until toothpick comes out clean.
Serve with cream.
