Sausage In The Pot - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 lb. kielbasa or Polish sausage
    1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
    6 small potatoes, pared
    6 large carrots, pared and cut into chunks
    3 white turnips, pared and cubed
    6 stalks celery, cubed
    4 to 6 small to medium onions, whole or cut in half
    1 tsp. salt
    2 c. water
    parsley sprigs
    6 to 10 peppercorns
    1 bay leaf
Preparation
    Cut X's in sausage at 1-inch intervals.
    Brown sausage, scored side down, in oil in kettle, turning often.
    Add to kettle the potatoes, carrots, turnips, celery and onions.
    Add water.
    Add parsley sprigs, peppercorns and bay leaf.
    Bring to boil; reduce heat and cover.
    Simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until vegetables are tender.
    Remove sausage to center of serving platter; arrange vegetables around sausage.
    Serve with a loaf of crusty bread.
    Serves 6.
