World War Cake(Copyright 1908 - 1933) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. brown sugar
    1 1/2 c. water
    1 c. seeded raisins
    2 oz. citron, cut fine
    1/3 c. shortening
    1 tsp. ground cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. cloves
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    5 tsp. baking powder
Preparation
    Boil together for 3 minutes the sugar, water, fruit, shortening, spices and salt.
    Let cool, then add the flour and baking powder, sifted together and the vanilla.
    Mix well and bake in a well-greased loaf pan in moderate oven for about 45 minutes.
