Preheat oven to 500 Degrees while doing

Brown sausage and ham in Dutch oven.

Cook uncovered for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Cover and simmer 45 minutes adding additional water if necessary.
Remove bay leaf.
Makes 4 to 6 servings.
Put ham in Dutch oven or other kettle with a tight lid.
Boil for 45 minutes.
Then add other ingredients.
Bring back to boil and boil 5 minutes.
Allow to stand and steep several hours or overnight before serving.
