Toast bread and butter slices.
Cut in cubes.
Put sugar in top of double boiler; add bread, then add raisins.
Add milk to beaten eggs.
Pour over bread and raisins; do not stir.
Cover and put over bottom of double boiler which is half full of cold water. Set over heat and cook 1 hour with water boiling gently.
Turn out into serving dish and serve warm.
The brown sugar makes a sauce.

Prepare bread.
Remove crust and butter.
Stack all slices and cut into cubes (4 to 6 cubes).
Put sugar in boiler add cubed bread, milk and light brown sugar.
Pour on top of 4 eggs, well beaten.
Do not stir.
Cover and cook about 1 1/4 hours on medium heat.
Do not uncover until ready to serve.
Top with whip cream. Can be warmed if any left in double boiler.

Double Boiler Frosting

Combine egg whites, sugar, cream of tartar and water in top of double boiler.
Beat at high speed 1 minute.
Place over boiling water; beat on high speed 7 minutes.
Remove pan from boiling water; add vanilla.
Beat 2 minutes longer on high speed.
Fills and frosts two 8 or 9-inch layers or frosts a 9 x 13-inch cake.

Double Boiler Frosting

Combine ingredients in top of double boiler with water boiling.
Beat or stir for 1 minute.
Use mixer and whip until mixture will hold a peak (about 4 minutes).
Remove from heat and add vanilla.
Continue beating for about 1
1/2 minutes longer.

Combine egg whites, sugar, water, corn syrup and salt in double boiler top. With electric mixer at high speed, beat about 1 minute to blend.
Place over rapidly boiling water and beat until mixture holds a peak when beater is raised.
Remove from boiling water. Add vanilla and continue to beat until mixture is stiff enough to spread. Fills and frosts top and sides of two 8-inch or 9-inch layers or a 9 x 9 x 2 or 8 x 8 x 2-inch cake.

Add vanilla.
Beat 2 minutes longer on high speed.

Seven Minute Double Boiler Frosting

Combine sugar, egg whites, corn syrup and salt in top of large double boiler; add cold water and beat on low speed of electric mixer for 30 seconds or until well blended.
Place over boiling water, beating constantly on high speed about 7 minutes or until stiff peaks form.
Remove from heat.
Add vanilla and beat 2 minutes or until frosting is thick enough to spread.
Yields enough for 3 layer cake.

Put brown sugar in prepared pan, then put bread cubes over sugar.
Do not stir.
Beat eggs with milk.
Pour over bread. Do not stir.
Sprinkle with nutmeg.
Steam for 1 hour; cool. Serve warm or cold.

Double-Boiler Frosting

Place first 4 ingredients in double boiler. Beat with mixer until mixture stands in stiff peaks, about 7 minutes.
Scrape sides of pan occasionally. Remove from heat. Fold in vanilla. Makes enough frosting for 2 layers or oblong cake.
