Rinse sauerkraut with warm water in colander, drain well. Place in heavy saucepan or pot with the butter and seasonings (salt, pepper, caraway seed, juniper berries, onion, apple, whatever you like).
Cover pan tightly, simmer over lowest heat 15 to 30 minutes.
Add liquid (omit salt if bouillon is the liquid). Cook 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours longer, according to your taste. Makes 6 servings.

Add hot dogs sliced 1/4-inch thick. Heat till all boils.
You can add dried chilies if wanted. Serve with crackers, pretzels, potato chips, or use this for a side dish.
Spread half of mashed potatoes into bottom of a greased 2 1/2 qt.greased casserole.
Top with half of hot dogs and half of sauerkraut.

Boil peeled potatoes (cut in quarters) until tender but not mushy. Drain, and add to the pan the amount of sauerkraut for the number of people you've planned to feed. Also add hot dogs cut into 1 inch pieces. Heat everything, but watch carefully to avoid burning. Add butter if desired. We always ate this with mustard for the sauerkraut and hot dogs.
The next day my mother would heat leftovers in a frying pan, letting the sauerkraut get brown.
In a large skillet add the sauerkraut. Place hot dogs on top of the kraut.
Cover and let simmer 15-20 minutes or until hot dogs are plump and hot.
Serve over mashed potatoes.
Boil hot dogs for 5 minutes in beer till heated through and plump.
Place in buns and top as you wish.
Preheat grill or grill pan for medium-high heat.
Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions, and cook slowly until the onions have softened and turned deep brown, about 15 minutes. Warm the cream cheese over low heat in a small skillet until very soft.
Grill hot dogs until well browned. Lightly grill hot dog buns on both sides.
To assemble cheese dogs, spread warm cream cheese on toasted hot dog bun, add hot dog or sausage, top with onions, mustard and sauerkraut, if desired.
Place desired number of hot dogs in individual foil wraps. Sprinkle with sauerkraut, soup mix, chili sauce and 2 tablespoons beer or cola.
Seal and cook on grill.
Turn into toasted buns.
Empty the bag of fresh sauerkraut into a deep pan. Add water and hot dogs. Top this off with the tube of refrigerator bisquits. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and cover. Cook for about 15 minutes. Bisquits are now fluffy like dumplings. Serve with mashed potatoes. Enjoy!
