Cut stew meat in smaller pieces.
Add onion, cut in chunks. Brown.
Add about 1 cup water; simmer until partially tender.

(Also add other raw vegetables, if desired.)

Add golden cream of mushroom soup for gravy mixture.

Place meat in the bottom of a 4 quart crock pot. Lightly season with salt and pepper.
