I remember a molasses cake Grandma Rogers made when I
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs. Add molasses. Sift the flour with cloves, ginger, cinnamon and salt. Put the soda in the boiling water. Add flour mixture to the sugar mixture. Gradually add soda water, stirring constantly. Beat mixture well. The batter will be very thin, but do not add more flour. Pour into a greased and lightly floured 9 x 13 cake pan. Bake in moderate oven about 45 minutes or until when you press top of cake it leaves no dent.
Place the flour, sugar and margarine or butter in a large bowl.
Cream together thoroughly to make crumbs.
Set aside 1 cup of crumbs to sprinkle over top of cake.
Place the molasses, warm water and baking soda in another bowl.
Blend together.
Add liquid mixture to crumbs.
Place in a 13 x 9-inch pan.
Sprinkle remaining crumbs over top of cake.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for about 45 minutes.
