Add sugar and
op portion of a cooktop rice steamer; stir in crumbled bacon.
Soak rice in enough water to cover for at least 4 hours (preferably overnight), then drain.
Place rice and the 2 cups water in a non-stick saucepan over medium heat; bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer until all water is absorbed, about 40 minutes.
Alternatively, place rice in a rice steamer over boiling water and cook for 40 minutes or until tender.
Fluff rice before serving.
Garnish with coconut, sesame seeds, and/or peanuts, if desired (traditional).
In your rice steamer combine the water, rice, olive oil, vinegar, basil, oregano, salt, pepper and tomatoes. Cook according to steamer's settings.
Rinse and soak glutinous rice for a minimum of 4
inutes and then add the rice another 5 minutes until mixture
Saute vegetables in fat from bacon.
(May use olive oil and low-fat chopped ham, almost as good as bacon.)
Add tomato sauce, seasonings and bacon.
Pour over 2 cups uncooked rice into rice steamer and stir.
(Southern rice always better in a rice steamer.)
Cook 1 hour, stirring with a fork after 45 minutes. Adjust seasonings as needed.
Cook rice in turkey stock in microwave or rice steamer.
If using the steamer, reduce turkey stock to 2 cups.
Saute garlic and vegetables in butter until soft.
Add ground meat and seasoning to sauteed vegetables.
Brown until done.
Do not drain liquid--this is not a low fat recipe!
Just continue cooking until the liquid is reduced almost completely (leave it a little juicy) back into the meat and vegetable mixture. You don't want the rice runny, just moist.
Stir meat mixture into rice and serve.
Make the salad: Place basmati rice, wild rice and water in a pressure

Stir rice, tomato sauce, salt and pepper into rice steamer and let steam for 30 minutes.
While rice is steaming, fry bacon and brown onion in bacon grease.
Break up crisp bacon.
Pour grease, sauteed onion, shrimp and bacon into rice.
Fluff up and steam for another 30 minutes.
Cook rice according to your preference. (I use a rice steamer.).
When rice is done, quickly add salsa, cheese, and salt and pepper to taste. Mix well.
Additional cheese may be sprinkled on top.
