President Madison's wife, Dolly, was a good cook.
She was also a very religious woman.
As was the custom in those days, she did not give out her recipes.
After repeated requests for this cake recipe, Mrs. Madison prepared it in this manner to make it necessary to read the Bible to complete the cake.
Sift together 1 Samuel, 1 Kings, Exodus and Luke.
Add
Grease and flour a 9 1/2-inch tube pan.
Chop nuts and fruit fine; flour well with flour from the 2 cups.
Beat egg whites until stiff, but not dry; set aside.
In mixing bowl, blend butter, sugar, spices and salt.
Beat egg yolks and add.
Sift in baking powder and flour; add water and honey.
Stir in floured nuts and fruits; beat.
Fold into well beaten mixture the egg whites.
Pour batter into pan.
Bake 30 to 60 minutes at 375\u00b0.

Sift together 1 Kings 4:22 and Leviticus 2
Sift together in a large bowl 2 Kings 4:22, Jeremiah 6:20, Leviticus 2:13, Amos 4:5 and 1 Chronicles 9:9.
Add Judges 5:25, 1 Samuel 14:25 and Judges 4:19.
Beat until smooth.
Add Jeremiah 17:11.
Beat for 5 minutes by hand; add 1 Samuel 30:12.
Bake at 325\u00b0 for 1 hour.

Cream the first 3 ingredients together.
Beat Jeremiah until frothy.
Add Judges.
Combine with the creamed mixture and beat thoroughly.
Sift half of 1 Kings together with Amos.
Add rest of 1 Kings.
Combine first mixture with second mixture.
Chop 1 Samuel 30:12 and Nahum; flour these before adding to mixture. 2 Chronicles is added last.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 30 minutes.
Follow Solomon's advise for making (Proverbs 23:14).
Cream Judges 5:25 and Jeremiah 6:20.
Chop Nahum 3:12 and add to mixture.
Beat Isaiah 10:14 until frothy and add Judges 4:19. Sift part if 1 Kings 4:22 with Amos 4:5.
Add remaining Kings. Add alternately to cream mixture along with Isaiah 10:14.
Beat well.
Add 1 Samuel 14:25, 1 Samuel 30:12 and Numbers 17:8.
Add to mixture with remaining ingredients.
Mix well.
Pour into greased pan and bake at 375\u00b0 until tests done.

Some recipes call for the dough to
Roll in flour (1 Kings 4:22).
Season with spices (Chronicles 9:9).
Stir and bake in a deep pan in a slow oven.
Beat Jeremiah 17:11 until light.
Blend in Jeremiah 6:20. Beat in Judges 5:25.
Into another bowl, sift 1 Kings 4:22.
Add Amos 4:5, Leviticus 2:13 and 2 Chronicles 9:9.
Combine dry ingredients with liquid mixture alternately with an additional 1 1/2 cups of Judges 4:19.
Fold in 1 Samuel 14:25.
Chop Nahum 3:12 and Numbers 17:8.
Add to the mixture, folding in gently.
Beat well.
:20. Stir together the Kings 4:22, Amos 4:5
Blend first three ingredients in a small bowl until light and fluffy.
In a separate bowl, beat the 6 Jeremiah yolks, then add Kings, Amos, Chronicles and Leviticus alternately with the Judges mixture.
Fold in Nahum, Numbers and Samuel, then also the 6 Jeremiah whites, beaten stiff.
Bake in a heavily greased and floured Bundt pan for 1 3/4 hours at 300\u00b0.
Cream shortening, oil and sugar together, then add eggs, one at a time.
Proverbs 23:14 (beat) well.
Sift and measure flour, baking powder and salt.
Add alternately to sugar mixture with milk.
Stir in honey and spices, then raisins, figs (or dates) and almonds.
2 Kings 4:5 (pour) into well-greased vessels (loaf pans or a 9 x 13-inch pan) and Leviticus 24:5 (bake) for 45 minutes.

Sift together 1 Samuel, 1 Kings, Exodus and Luke.
Add
Whip Judges, Jeremiah and 1 Samuel until light.
Beat the 6 Jeremiah yolks and add to first ingredients.
Then, add 1 Kings, Amos, Chronicles and Leviticus, alternately with Judges.
Fold in Nahum, Numbers and 1 Samuel 30:12.
Add the Jeremiah whites, beaten stiff.
Bake 2 hours at 300\u00b0 in greased 10-inch tube pan.
Cut Nahum 3:12 into small pieces.
Coat this and 1 Samuel 30:12 in 1/2 cup 1 Kings 4:22.
Add Numbers 17:8.
Cream together Judges 5:25 and Jeremiah 6:20.
Add Isaiah 10:14, one at a time, beating well after each one.
