Mix with electric mixer 2 to 3 minutes the sugar, flour, Karo syrup, eggs, butter, vanilla and salt. Pour into 1 deep dish or 2 shallow pie crusts (uncooked).
Top with pecan halves. Bake at 400\u00b0 for 10 minutes. Decrease oven to 350\u00b0 and bake 40 to 45 minutes.
It is done when knife inserted halfway between center and edge comes out clean.

In food processor, pulse flour, salt butter and vegetable shortening until in large crumbs.
Add cold water; pulse until mixture starts to form a ball. (Do not overmix).
Shape dough into round disc.
Cover with plastic wrap.
Freeze for 10 minutes until easy to handle.
Roll dough into 11 inch circle on floured surface.
Fit dough into 9 1/2 inch deep dish pie plate.
Turn edge under and flute.
Pour in filling and bake at 350F for 40-50 minutes.

Prebake 9-inch deep-dish pie shell for 10 minutes.

Add sugar. Beat well.
Beat eggs in separate dish.
Add eggs to butter and sugar mixture; mix well.
Add remaining ingredients; mix well. Pour into pie shell.
Bake 1 hour at 350\u00b0.
