Spread the sauerkraut in a buttered ovenproof serving dish 12 x 9 x 2-inch.
Cover it with tomatoes, including the reserved juice.
Sprinkle the mixture with brown sugar.
Arrange the bacon on top and bake in a preheated oven at 300\u00b0 for 2 hours.
Remove from oven, cut the bacon into pieces and stir it gently into the sauerkraut mixture.
Bake the dish, adding water as necessary to prevent it from drying out for 1 more hour.
