In a medium mixing bowl, whisk the flour, sugar and salt to combine.
Add the butter to the flour mixture and toss to coat.
Put the bowl in the freezer for 10 minutes.
Turn the mixture onto a clean, dry counter (marble is best) and roll over it with a rolling pin to flatten the butter pieces. Using your hands or a bench scraper, gather the mixture together and then roll over it again with a rolling pin.
Repeat one more time, then scrape the mixture back into the bowl and place in the freezer again for 5 minutes.

Preheat oven to 375\u00b0F.
Sift flour, salt and baking powder together. Set aside.
Beat butter, shortening and sugar until fluffy.
Add corn syrup.
Add egg and beat thoroughly.
Beat in vanilla.
Gradually add dry ingredients and beat on low speed until thoroughly combined.
Stir in chips.
Drop onto lightly greased cookie sheets and bake at for about 12 minutes, or until edges begin to brown.

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Spray a 9-inch cake pan with nonstick cooking spray.
Combine self-rising flour, sugar and salt. Work shortening in with your fingers until there are no large lumps. Stir in cream, then buttermilk, until it resembles cottage cheese. (Very sticky) Add more buttermilk, if needed.

Shirley'S Corn Casserole

Drain the whole kernel corn.\r\nMix together everything except for the cheese and bake in a greased baking dish at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
Remove and sprinkle cheese on top and bake until cheese is melted.

Shirley Lavy'S Hot Ham And Cheese Sandwiches

Melt margarine.
Saute onion until soft or add dried onions. Add Worcestershire sauce, poppy seed and mustard.
Blend well. Spread on both sides of buns.
Add ham and cheese.
Wrap with foil and bake at 350\u00b0 for 10 to 15 minutes or until cheese is melted. These can be made ahead of time and can also be frozen.

Parboil yams and then peel.
Cut in thick slices.
Place in baking dish.
Mix all dry ingredients.
Cover yams with mixture. Dot with margarine.
Put lemon juice over yams.
Pour water in. Cut 1/2 orange in slices.
Place on yams.
Other 1/2 of orange squeeze over yams.
Bake at 400\u00b0 for 35 to 40 minutes or until yams are tender.
Syrup is thick, baste after.

Mile-High Apple Pie

Roll one-half the pastry on floured surface into circle 1-inch larger than inverted pie pan.
Ease pastry into pan.
Combine cornstarch, Equal for Recipes, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt; sprinkle over apples in large bowl and toss.
Arrange apples in pie crust. Roll remaining pastry into circle large enough to fit top of pie. Place on top of pie; seal edges, trim and flute.
Slash top crust in pattern of your choice.
Bake in preheated 425\u00b0 oven until pastry is golden and apples are tender (40 to 50 minutes).
