Next day, cut into pieces.
Have lye water cold and fat lukewarm before mixing.
Stir until it starts to thicken, then add turpentine and Borax.
Add enough bluing to tint.
Cook when the moon is going full.
Heat water and then add grease.
Add lye and stir as needed.
Don't let it overflow.
Hold stir paddle up and it will thicken and string when ready.
Let fire die out naturally.
Set overnight or longer.
Skim off top as necessary.
Cut in bars.
Soap Making:
To clarify fat, melt and add a few slices raw potatoes, letting them get a golden brown and the grease to bubble.
When this is done, strain through a cloth into a jar or lard pail.
Dissolve lye in water; cool.
Stir in grease, turpentine and Borax.
Stir 10 minutes.
Make outdoors; use 12-quart enamel pot.
Dissolve Borax and ammonia in water.
Dissolve lye in this mixture, using large stick, stir until dissolved.
Cool to lukewarm and add melted fat. Stir until mixture is thick as fudge.
Pour into box.
Cut when cool.
It floats and is gentle.
Dissolve lye in cold water.
Let cool.
Add lukewarm grease and stir until set.
Cook out of doors in old iron laundry kettle over open fire. Stir often with a long wooden paddle.

Take your bar of soap (we use Dove or store brand like it, because it's more moisturizing), and grate it with a cheese grater.
Pour the water and grated soap into a microwaveable container and cook on high for 3 min.
Remove and stir until all soap bits have melted (put in a bit longer, if needed).
