Homemade Soap - cooking recipe

Ingredients

6 to 10 qt. buckets of water
4 cans lye
16 lb. grease

Preparation

Bring water and lye to a hard boil in \"black wash pot.\"
Add the grease.
Keep at a slow, rolling boil, stirring with a long paddle.
Cook until the soap thickens and falls rope-like when lifted out of pot or until jell sets in a saucer.
Let cool in pot. When set and firm enough to handle, cut in hunks.
Push out and cut into smaller pieces.
Place on a table or board in sun to dry.
