Lye Soap(This Is Just A Sample Of What We Use To Do In The Old Days.) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 qt. water
    6 lb. grease
    1 can lye
    1 c. Borax
    3 gal. water
Preparation
    This should be done in a well ventilated area, preferably outside, using a large cast-iron pot.
    If you use your own grease, skim off only the top and add Borax.
    Mix water and grease; bring this mixture to a boil.
    Pour lye into boiled ingredients being very careful with lye.
    Bring to second boil.
    Add 3 gallons water.
    Cook until it thickens, stirring constantly.
    Boil mixture 3 hours.
    Can leave in pot or pour into wooden or cardboard box lined with freezer paper with wax side up.
    Do not use aluminum. Let soap set for 24 hours, then cut into squares.
    Wrap in wax paper and store for 5 weeks or 6 months.
