Date Filled Cookies

Combine shortening, salt and vanilla.
Blend.
Add sugar and cream well.
Add beaten egg and mix thoroughly.
Sift flour and baking powder.
Add to the first, alternately with milk, blending well.
Chill dough.
Roll dough 1/8-inch thick on floured board. Cut into 3-inch cookie.
Place one cookie on ungreased cookie sheet.
Add 1 teaspoon of Date Filling (recipe to follow).
Cover with another cookie.
Press together with a fork.
Prick top of each cookie with a fork.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for about 15 minutes.

Bacon And Date Appetizer

Put one or two almonds inside date and wrap with 1/2 slice of bacon.
May need to use toothpick.
I used a deep fryer at 350\u00b0 and fried them for a couple minutes.
You could also pan fry (or Wok) until bacon cooked.
Some have tried baking at 425\u00b0 until bacon cooked - but this method takes longer and bacon not cooked as evenly.

Preheat the broiler.
Slit dates. Place one almond inside each date. Wrap dates with bacon, using toothpicks to hold them together.

Cut each strip of bacon in half.

Wrap around a pitted date which may or may not be filled with a nut.

Bacon Bombs(Appetizer)

Roll the Wonder Bread with a rolling pin until thin, then cut crust off of bread.
Spread Cheese Whiz on bread, then cut in 3 strips lengthwise.
Roll one water chestnut (possibly 1/2 depending on size) in strip of bread.
Cut bacon in half, then roll bacon strips around bread.
Stick a toothpick in to hold together.
Put cooling rack on top of cookie sheet, place bacon bombs on cooling rack.
Preheat Oven to 375.
Cook Bacon Bombs for approx 20 min. or until bacon looks crispy.

Prune Drop Cookies(1933 Recipe)

Heat oven to 400\u00b0.
Mix thoroughly shortening, brown sugar and eggs.
Stir in water and vanilla.
Sift together and stir in flour, salt, soda and cinnamon.
Drop with teaspoon on ungreased baking sheet.
Place 1/2 teaspoon Date Filling on dough; cover with another 1/2 teaspoon of dough.
Bake until lightly browned, 10 to 12 minutes.
Makes 5 to 6 dozen.

Date Bars

Prepare Date Filling; cool.
Heat oven to 400\u00b0.
Grease square pan, 9 x 9 x 2-inch.
Mix brown sugar, margarine and shortening. Mix in baking mix and oats.
Press half of the crumbly mixture in pan; spread with filling.
Top with remaining crumbly mixture; press gently into filling.
Bake until light brown, 25 to 30 minutes.
Cut into bars, about 2 x 1 1/2-inch.
Makes 2 dozen cookies.

Bacon Cheese Appetizer

Line a microwave-safe baking dish or plate with double layers of paper towels.
Place bacon slices on dish. Cover with paper towels. Microwave on High power for about 3 minutes.
Prepare cheese cubes.
Sprinkle with cayenne pepper.
Wrap bacon around each cube. Secure with toothpicks.
Place on paper towel in a microwave-safe baking dish.
Microwave on High 1 to 2 minutes until cheese starts to melt and bacon is done to your liking. Garnish with tomato halves and serve. Serves 4.

Bacon Wrapped Feta Stuffed Dates

HEAT oven to 425\u00b0F.
CUT slit in long side of each date, being careful to not cut completely through date. Remove and discard pits. Cut cheese into 16 (1x1/4-inch) sticks. Stuff each date with cheese.
WRAP 1 bacon piece around each date, completely enclosing cheese. Place on rack of broiler pan.
BAKE 14 to 15 minute or until bacon is crisp, turning after 8 minute Cool 5 min; transfer to plate. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Place all of these dates on a cookie sheet.
Cook at 350 for approximately 30 minutes, turning them once.
