Wild Bird Seed Cookies For Birds

Sift together dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl.
Cut in shortening with a pastry blender or knives until crumbly. Add eggs and mix to make firm dough.
Add bird seed and knead until smooth.
Wrap in waxed paper and plastic bag and chill thoroughly.

Melt beef suet and peanut butter in heavy saucepan.
Stir until blended. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature or until pudding starts to thicken.
Add sunflower seeds or bird seeds, mix thoroughly.
Spoon into tinfoil pans.
Refrigerate until solid, then nail or otherwise affix to outside table, balcony ledge, tree, etc.

Cook 2 cups oats in 2-inches of water.
Remove from heat; add lard and peanut butter.

Peanut Butter Bird Suet

Melt the lard and peanut butter, and mix in the dry ingredients and bird seed. Often we mix in bacon fat, bread crumbs, Red River cereal, or whatever we have on hand. Work well together. Make into 4 x 4 x 2 inch blocks and freeze. Place in suet feeder in a tree and watch the birds come to feast!

Bird'S Nest Soup

Soak bird's nest overnight. Then remove water and clean.
In a stockpot add cooking oil and boil the chicken stock then add in birds nest. Let it heat for 10 minutes. Add the rest of the ingredients and let it heat for another 10 minutes. Add in cornstarch roux to lightly thicken the soup and stir in the chicken meat, mushrooms and turn off the heat and let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Make Rich Tea Biscuit dough, adding more milk to make a drop biscuit dough. Spread the dough 1/2 inch deep in an oblong 9 x 12-inch baking dish. Peel and pare apples; cut in eighths. Press apple slices into top of dough very close together. (It won't hurt if more than a layer thick.) Dot with butter or oleo. Mix cinnamon and sugar together.
Sprinkle over apples. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes or until done. Serve warm or cold with Lemon Sauce (recipe follows).
