Date Filled Cookies

Combine shortening, salt and vanilla.
Blend.
Add sugar and cream well.
Add beaten egg and mix thoroughly.
Sift flour and baking powder.
Add to the first, alternately with milk, blending well.
Chill dough.
Roll dough 1/8-inch thick on floured board. Cut into 3-inch cookie.
Place one cookie on ungreased cookie sheet.
Add 1 teaspoon of Date Filling (recipe to follow).
Cover with another cookie.
Press together with a fork.
Prick top of each cookie with a fork.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for about 15 minutes.

Date Balls - Energy Saver

Mix first 4 ingredients and microwave to slow boiling point. Stir in pecans and Rice Krispies.
When cool, form into small balls and roll in powdered sugar.
Energy saver.

Coconut Date Balls

Place the dates in a heatproof bowl. Cover with boiling water and let stand 2 mins, or until softened slightly. Drain well and cool.
Add dates, cinnamon, nutmeg, almonds, orange zest and orange juice to a food processor and process until just combined. Shape into 16 balls.
Place coconut on a large flat plate. Roll the date balls in the coconut to coat lightly, then place them on a clean plate. Cover with plastic wrap and chill for 30 mins, then serve.

Jan'S Christmas Date Balls

Boil butter, dates and sugar for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
Add beaten egg, vanilla and rice krispies.
Mix well.
Shape into 1 inch balls.
Roll balls into crushed rice krispies.
Store in cookie tins with waxed paper.

Christmas Date Balls

Blend in saucepan and cook over medium heat the first 4 ingredients . Stir constantly.
Cook for 10 minutes or until mixture is well away from sides of pan.
Remove from heat and add the Rice Krispies, pecans and vanilla.
Make into balls and roll in coconut or chopped nuts.

Yemeni Date Balls With Almonds

Remove the pit from each date. Turn the date inside out.
Place a whole almond in the middle of the date, then roll it into a ball shape (remember you are rolling the date that is inside out).
Wash your hands because they will be sticky!
Put the sesame seeds in a deep bowl. Place the date balls in the bowl and gently shake the balls around to cover the dates with the sesame seeds.
Arrange on a serving platter and if desired, lightly dust with ground cardamom.
Serve immediately or cover well and refrigerate.

Cook and stir dates, sugar, and margarine in a large saucepan over low heat until sugar dissolves; remove from heat. Fold crispy rice cereal, pecans, and vanilla extract into the date mixture until evenly mixed.

Cool. Roll mixture into balls and roll in icing sugar. You may need to roll them twice to get a good coating.

Cool; shake date balls inside of plastic bag with 1/2 cup powdered sugar in it.

Cream margarine and 1/3 cup confectioners sugar in mixer bowl until light and fluffy.
Stir in water and vanilla.
Add flour and salt; mix well.
Stir in dates and pecans.
Shape into thirty 1-inch balls.
Place on ungreased 10 x 15-inch baking sheet.
Bake at 300\u00b0 for 20 minutes.
Roll warm date balls in 1 cup confectioners sugar.
Yield:

Prune Drop Cookies(1933 Recipe)

Heat oven to 400\u00b0.
Mix thoroughly shortening, brown sugar and eggs.
Stir in water and vanilla.
Sift together and stir in flour, salt, soda and cinnamon.
Drop with teaspoon on ungreased baking sheet.
Place 1/2 teaspoon Date Filling on dough; cover with another 1/2 teaspoon of dough.
Bake until lightly browned, 10 to 12 minutes.
Makes 5 to 6 dozen.

Date Bars

Prepare Date Filling; cool.
Heat oven to 400\u00b0.
Grease square pan, 9 x 9 x 2-inch.
Mix brown sugar, margarine and shortening. Mix in baking mix and oats.
Press half of the crumbly mixture in pan; spread with filling.
Top with remaining crumbly mixture; press gently into filling.
Bake until light brown, 25 to 30 minutes.
Cut into bars, about 2 x 1 1/2-inch.
Makes 2 dozen cookies.
