Saute onions in oleo, then add to meat, rice, salt and pepper. Mix well. Core cabbage, then boil head in water for 10 minutes. Drain and separate leaves. Place a large tablespoon of meat mixture in each leaf and roll up, tucking in ends. Place rolls and bay leaf in baking dish. Mix soup with 1/2 can of water and 1 teaspoon sugar, then pour over rolls. Cover and bake at 350\u00b0 for about 90 minutes. Check periodically and add more water if needed.

Line bottom of 4 1/2-quart pot with sauerkraut.
Place 3 to 4 tablespoons of meat mixture in center of leaf and roll, bringing in sides of leaf as you roll.

Simmer on low for 3 to 4 hours.
