First, make the mulled wine. Pour the wine into a pan with the

Place 1 tablespoon sweetened dried cranberries and 1 1/2 teaspoons almonds in bottom of each punch glass or mug.
Pour mulled wine over mixture.
In a non-reactive pot combine raisins, sugar, cloves, cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks and almonds.
Cover with water and simmer for 2 hours.
Turn off burner and add wine.
Let sit for 1-2 hours.
Remove raisins and spices, either by straining or with a slotted spoon. Save the raisins to snack on! Just make sure the kids don't get them--they are STRONG!
To serve, heat in individual mugs in the microwave, adding a shot of vodka if you are really daring!

Place cloves, peppercorns, and zest in center of cheesecloth and tie to form a bag. Combine cheesecloth bag and remaining ingredients in 4 quart saucepan, bring to a simmer and simmer, stirring occasionally for 10 minutes.
Ladle wine into heatproof small glasses or cups and garnish with cinnamon sticks.
Stick cloves into the orange peels making sure to pierce well, place peels in bottom of crock pot.

Mix cranberries, orange juice, and brown sugar in a saucepan over low heat. Bring to a simmer; cook and stir until sugar has dissolved, about 5 minutes. Add wine, cinnamon, star anise, nutmeg, and cloves. Mix well. Continue simmering until sauce starts to thicken, about 10 minutes.
In a saucepan, combine 1 bottle full-bodied red wine, 3 tbsp.
honey, 2 cinnamon sticks, 2 tbsp.
cardamom seeds, 1 tbsp.
black peppercorns, 1 sliced orange, 1 sliced lemon and 1/2 cup sugar.
Simmer 15 minutes.
Pour into a mug garnished with a cinnamon stick.

Wrap the cardamom pods and cloves in a piece of cheesecloth or muslin.
Mix the rest of the ingredients, apart from the cognac, together in a large saucepan. Add the bag of spices. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over a low heat. Do not allow the wine to boil.
The mulled wine is hot enough when the sugar has dissolved. Add the Cognac to the saucepan when the sugar has dissolved and ladle the mulled wine through a tea strainer (or colander) into punch cups, mugs or glasses.
Combine all ingredients in a small bowl.
Place mix in an airtight container and give with the recipe for Mulled Wine. Yields about 3/4 cup of mix.
Place orange pieces, cinnamon stick, star anise, sugar and 1/2 cup water in a saucepan and cook, stirring, over low heat for 5 mins. Strain through a sieve. Reserved liquid and discard solids.
