Melt butter and sugar together.

Bake in 4 greased and floured 9 inch pans at 400 degrees for 15-18 minutes, as the layers should be about 1/2 inch thick when done.
Melt the apple jelly.
Pour 3 ounces of jelly over each layer as they are stacked.

Bake 2 plain, then add raisins, nut meats, cinnamon and cloves.
When cool stick with filling.

Spoon jelly mixture between layers.
For top layer and sides, add coconut to remaining jelly mixture.
Stir well and spread over top and sides.

When layers are cool, spread jam or jelly between each layer and on top layer, then cover entire cake top and sides with Cool Whip.
Place in refrigerator.
Keep cool at all times.
Bake 4 layers, following cake mix directions.
Cool layers until just slightly warm.
Spread each layer generously with jelly.
