Add water, tomatoes with liquid, onions, garlic, paprika, salt, bouillon, broth, caraway seed and pepper.
Bring to a boil.

Add potatoes; cover and simmer 30 minutes.
Add green pepper.
Cover and simmer 8 to 10 minutes.
Serve in soup bowls with French bread.

In Dutch oven (8-quart size), brown beef shanks in hot oil until browned on all sides.
Remove meat and bones to plate.
In remaining drippings, cook onion until tender.
Stir in paprika. Cook 1 minute.
Return beef and bones to Dutch oven.
Add celery, carrots, tomatoes with their liquid, salt and 5 cups water to boiling.
Reduce heat to simmer.
Cover for 40 minutes.

Crock Pot Hungarian Beef Goulash

Place onions and carrots in crock pot.
Combine next four ingredients; toss beef with this mixture and add to crock pot.
Combine broth, wine, tomato paste, paprika and garlic; pour over beef.
Cover crock pot and cook 7-8 hours on low.
When stew is ready cook noodles and transfer to platter.
Stir sour cream into stew.
Top noodles with stew.

Karl Ratzsch'S Hungarian Beef Goulash

Cut meat up into 1 1/2 inch squares. Saute onions in butter until transparent, but not brown. Add meat and cook for 10-15 minutes Add the flour and stir well. Add the salt, pepper, and beef stock just enough to cover the meat. Cover the pan and bring up to the boil. Lower the heat, add the paprika, and simmer until tender, about 1 1/2 hours. If you prefer a thicker gravy stir 2 Tbs flour into 1/4 cup cold water and add to meat mixture near the end of the cooking time. Serves 4-6.

Sear the meats, onions, bell pepper, and garlic in a large deep pan.
Season with salt and pepper. Add caraway seeds.
Stir in rinsed and drained kraut.
Add beef broth.
Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Add water if you need to.
20 minutes before goulash is done, stir in sour cream and paprika. Do not allow the goulash to boil at this point.

Saute meat in hot oil.
Add onion.
Saute 5 to 10 minutes, until almost all oil is gone.
Add paprika; stir, then add flour. Cook 5 minutes, blending well.

Cover and simmer 1 hour, or until meat is tender. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Discard seasoning bag.
(Half cup sour cream may be added just before serving.)

Traditional Hungarian Beef Goulash Stew

Heat oil in a deep frypan and cook onions on a medium heat until soft and translucent. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
Add paprika to onion and stir through.
Add diced meat to mixture and coat and marinade the mixture whilst you prepare the tomato and capsicum. Make sure you keep the juice from the tomato to add to the dish.
Stir in the tomato and capsicum and return to a medium/high heat and allow to cook for a few minutes on this heat before reducing the heat to medium/low. Cover with a lid for this to cook.
