Prepare favorite white cake recipe or boxed cake mix and divide batter between 1 (8-inch) square pan and 1 (8-inch) round pan.
Bake according to directions.
Remove cakes from pan and cool.

In a small bowl, combine vinegar, shallots(or scallions) and brown sugar; set aside for at least 1/2 hour. In a medium bowl, slowly whisk together cranberry sauce, olive oil, walnut oil and salt and pepper. Add vinegar mixture to cranberry mixture and whisk until combined. Serve over a pretty salad. Heat the oven to 350\u00b0. Grease a 9 x 13 x 2-inch pan. In a large bowl, using wire whisk, stir the first 4 ingredients until well blended. Combine the eggs, oil, milk and vanilla and whisk them in. Stir in cranberries and walnuts and turn into the prepared pan. Sprinkle top with sugar. Bake until cake is golden brown and shrinking from the pan. Let cake cool in pan and then cut into squares. Makes about 24 (2-inch) squares.
