Cover with lid and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3 hours.

large,skillet brown the sausage until it is cooked through
Peel and slice potatoes; core cabbage and slice in 1/2-inch pieces.
Peel and slice onions; slice Polish sausage.
Layer potatoes, onions, cabbage, then Polish sausage.
Add another layer of everything, but end with cabbage this time.
Salt and pepper as you later.
Cook on High in microwave 20 minutes.
Let set 20 minutes.

Melt butter in Dutch oven. Add onion, apples and caraway seed. Cook and stir 3 minutes. Add cabbage, beer, sugar, salt and pepper. Add water to cover cabbage.
Heat to boil.
Reduce heat. Simmer, covered, until cabbage is tender, about 20 to 30 minutes. Add sausage. Cook until heated through. Remove sausage to serving platter.
