Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. light brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
1/4 c. buttermilk
2 c. sifted plain flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped pecans
1 c. cut up dates
1 c. candied cherries, cut up
Preparation

Mix well the shortening, brown sugar and eggs; stir in buttermilk and flavoring.
Sift dry ingredients together; stir in. Mix in pecans, dates and cherries.
Chill dough for 1 hour.
Drop dough with teaspoon (1/2 teaspoonful), about 2 inches apart, onto lightly greased baking sheet.
Top each cookie with 1/2 of cherry or pecan.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes at 350\u00b0.
