Cherry Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/3 c. shortening
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 egg, well beaten
    1 tsp. grated lemon rind
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 1/2 Tbsp. maraschino cherry juice
    1 c. flour
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 c. chopped nuts
    1/2 c. chopped raisins
    1 c. crushed corn flakes
    24 maraschino cherries
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly; add egg, lemon rind, vanilla and cherry juice.
    Beat well.
    Add sifted dry ingredients, then raisins and nuts.
    Drop from teaspoon into crushed cereal, roll into balls, coat well and top with maraschino cherries.
    Bake on greased cookie sheets in hot oven (400\u00b0) about 10 minutes or until delicately browned.
    Recipe makes two dozen.
