Ingredients

1/2 c. oleo
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 tsp. red food coloring
1/2 c. shortening
2 1/2 c. flour
Preparation

Mix the oleo, shortening, sugar, egg and vanilla.
Add flour and salt.
Mix well.
Divide dough into 2 parts.
Blend red food dye into one part.
Chill both.
Roll 1/2 teaspoon of each color into strips 3-inches long.
Place one red and one white side. Press lightly together and twist like a rope.
Curve top to form handle of cane.
Bake at 325\u00b0 for 15 minutes.
