Burnt Sugar Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. cold water
    3/4 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    1 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. salt
    2 3/4 c. flour
    3/4 c. milk
    2 egg whites
Preparation
    Put 1 cup sugar in iron skillet.
    Put on high heat.
    Stir all the time until sugar has melted and burned.
    Then add cold water. Cook down to make 1 cup liquid.
    Sift flour, soda, baking powder and salt.
    Cream shortening and 1 cup sugar.
    Then add burned sugar and mix with rest of the ingredients.
    Fold in beaten egg whites last.
