My Favorite Loaf Of White Bread - cooking recipe
Ingredients

5 to 6 c. bread flour
3 Tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. salt
1 pkg. active dry yeast
1 c. milk
1 c. water
3 Tbsp. Crisco shortening (at room temperature)
Preparation

Heat water
and milk in a saucepan to 120\u00b0 to 130\u00b0.
In a large
mixing
bowl,
add
2
cups of flour, sugar, salt and yeast.
Pour milk mixture into the dry ingredients and beat by hand until thoroughly blended.
Add Crisco;
continue beating. Add 1
cup
flour and, with a long wooden spoon, beat at least 100 strokes.
Add
flour,
1/4
cup
at a time, and stir in as much as you
can.
Flour
the
countertop
and turn dough out onto it. Knead with the push-fold motion, using enough of the remaining flour
to
make
a
moderately
stiff
dough that is smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes.
The dough will be firm and easy to knead.
