Bread And Butter Zucchini Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 medium white onions, sliced
    4 qt. zucchini, sliced
    1 green pepper, in strips
    1/3 c. salt
    3 c. white vinegar
    5 c. sugar (can be less)
    1 1/2 Tbsp. celery seed
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    2 trays ice cubes
Preparation
    Layer onions, zucchini and pepper with salt and ice cubes.
    Let stand for 3 hours, adding more ice if needed.
    Drain and divide into 2 batches.
    Combine remaining ingredients and pour over zucchini slices.
    Heat to boiling.
    Put into jars and seal.
    Makes 8 pints.
