Ingredients

1/4 c. shortening (Crisco)
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 c. molasses
1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 1/2 c. hot water
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Preparation

Mix Crisco, sugar, egg and molasses thoroughly, then stir in soda dissolved in hot water.
Sift flour, salt and spices together and stir into mix.
Drop from tablespoon onto cookie sheet and bake in 400\u00b0 oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
Frost with a mix of confectioners sugar, oleo, milk and vanilla just thick enough to spread.
