Pinwheel Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/3 c. shortening
    1 c. brown sugar
    1 egg, beaten
    1 3/4 c. flour
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. salt
    3/4 c. chopped dates
    1/3 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Cream shortening and brown sugar.
    Add beaten egg.
    Sift flour and measure and sift with baking powder and salt.
    Add to creamed mixture and mix thoroughly.
    Roll out to about 1/4-inch.
    Cook dates, water and white sugar over low heat about 5 minutes.
    Avoid scorching.
    Remove from heat.
    Cool.
    Add nuts.
    Spread filling on cookie dough and roll as a jelly roll.
    Chill 1 hour.
    Slice and bake about 12 to 15 minutes at 375\u00b0.
