1/2 stick butter or margarine
1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg
1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates, chopped
1 c. chopped walnuts
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar.
Add egg; beat well.
Combine flour, salt and baking powder; add to creamed mixture.
Add vanilla; beat well.
Stir in dates and nuts well.
Spoon batter into a greased 8-inch cake pan and bake at 350\u00b0 for 20 to 30 minutes.
Cool, then cut into bars.
Yields about 16 bars.
