Burnt Sugar Cake And Icing - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. butter
    1 1/2 c. sugar less 1 Tbsp.
    1/2 c. plus 1 Tbsp. shortening
    1 c. milk
    2 eggs
    2 1/2 c. cake flour
    2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. vanilla
    4 Tbsp. burnt sugar syrup
Preparation
    Sift flour; add baking powder and sift 3 times.
    Cream butter and sugar, adding sugar 2 tablespoons at a time.
    Cream well.
    Add beaten egg yolks, flour and milk.
    Add vanilla and burnt sugar syrup alternately.
    Fold in beaten egg whites.
    Bake 30 to 35 minutes in 350\u00b0 oven.
    Use 2 greased and floured round cake pans.
