Ingredients

2 eggs
1/2 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. nutmeg or vanilla
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
pinch of salt
Preparation

Cream together eggs, shortening and sugar.
Stir in flour, soda and cream of tartar.
Knead down until soft dough is formed. Shape into round rolls and let stand a few hours or overnight in refrigerator.
Slice with sharp knife.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 10 to 12 minutes.
Makes 3 1/2 dozen.
