Date Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. nuts
    1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/4 c. shortening
    2 beaten eggs
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. chopped dates
    1/2 tsp. salt
    3/4 c. boiling water
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. flour
Preparation
    Mix together nuts, dates, baking soda and salt.
    Set aside. Pour boiling water in a bowl with shortening.
    Let stand 15 minutes.
    Mix with first mixture; add eggs, vanilla, sugar and flour.
    Pour mixture in a greased and floured 9 x 5 x 5-inch pan. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour.
