Ingredients

1 c. finely chopped nuts
1/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
Preparation

Mix
shortening, butter, brown sugar, egg yolk and vanilla.
Sift in flour and salt.
Roll in walnut size balls. Mix 1 egg white slightly.
Dip balls in egg white and roll in nuts.
Bake 1 inch apart for 5 minutes in a 350\u00b0 oven.
Take from oven.
Press thumbprint and bake 8 minutes longer.
Fill with strawberry preserves.
