Ingredients

1/2 c. soft shortening (1/2 butter)
1/2 c. peanut butter
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 1/4 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt
Preparation

Mix together thoroughly the first 5 ingredients.
Sift together and stir in the remaining ingredients.
Chill dough. Roll into balls size of large walnuts.
Place 3 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet.
Flatten with fork dipped in flour, crisscross.
Bake until set, but not hard at 375\u00b0 (quick moderate oven).
Bake 10 to 12 minutes.
Makes about 3 dozen 2 1/2-inch cookies.
Spread melted peanut butter chips on top for frosting.
