Ingredients

1 c. butter or margarine
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar; add beaten eggs and vanilla.
Beat well.
Add sifted dry ingredients.
Let stand in refrigerator overnight.
Roll out, only working with about a third of the batter at a time.
After cutting with cookie cutter, dip one side in sugar.
Put on baking sheet.
Bake 8 or 10 minutes in moderate oven.
I prefer 325\u00b0 oven for 4 minutes in lower half and 4 minutes in upper half.
Don't overbake.
