Christmas Bread Or Fruit Bread - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 pkg. active dry yeast
1 Tbsp. sugar
1/3 c. lukewarm water
3 c. milk
1/2 c. butter
3 Tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
3 c. all-purpose flour
3 eggs
1 c. white raisins
1 c. currants
1 c. candied cherries
1 1/2 c. mixed candied fruit
6 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. ground cardamon seeds or 1/2 tsp. lemon rind, grated (may add)
Preparation

Soften yeast and one tablespoon sugar in warm water.
Scald milk and pour over the butter, sugar and salt.
When lukewarm, add the yeast and three cups flour.
Beat thoroughly.
Add rest of ingredients and stir until well mixed.
Beat until smooth and elastic.
Brush with melted butter; cover and let rise until light, 1 1/4 hours.
Beat well and fill buttered bread pans 2/3 full. Brush with melted butter.
Cover and let rise until light, 3/4 hour.
Brush lightly with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 50 to 60 minutes.
Makes 3 or 4 loaves, depending upon size of bread pans.
