Ingredients

1/2 lb. pitted dates
1/3 c. water
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. chopped walnuts
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 egg
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
Preparation

Cook together dates, water and 1/4 cup sugar for 5 minutes, then add the walnuts.
Cool.
Cream butter and sugars together thoroughly.
Add well beaten egg.
Add flour, salt and soda.
Put on slightly floured board and roll out to 1/4-inch thick.
Spread date mixture on dough.
Roll up like a jelly roll.
Wrap in wax paper.
Place in refrigerator overnight.
Slice.
Bake on greased cookie sheet for 12 minutes at 400\u00b0.
