New Mexican Spoon Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (No. 300) can cream-style corn
    3/4 c. milk
    1/3 c. melted shortening
    1 1/2 c. yellow corn meal
    2 eggs, slightly beaten
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. sugar (optional)
    1 (4 oz.) can chopped green chilies
    1 1/2 c. grated cheese (mild Cheddar or Longhorn)
Preparation
    Mix all ingredients except chilies and cheese.
    Pour 1/2 batter into a greased 9 x 9-inch pan.
    Sprinkle on 1/2 of cheese and chilies.
    Add remaining batter and top with cheese and chilies.
    Bake at 400\u00b0 for 45 minutes.
    Cool slightly and serve.
