Ingredients

1/2 c. (1 stick) butter
1/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. soda
8 sq. (1 pkg.) Baker's semi-sweet chocolate
3/4 c. nuts (optional)
1/2 sugar
1 egg
3/4 c. quick oats
1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation

Beat butter, sugar, vanilla and 1 egg until light and fluffy. Add flour, oats, soda and salt and stir until well blended.
Stir in chocolate pieces (cut into 1/2 chunks) and nuts.
Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 12 minutes or until lightly brown.
Cool 2 minutes, then remove and cool on rack.
Makes 2 dozen cookies.
