Chewy Ginger Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. shortening
    1 1/4 c. sugar, divided
    1 egg
    1/4 c. molasses
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
    2 c. flour
    1 tsp. ground cinnamon
    1 tsp. ground ginger
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. ground cloves
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Preparation
    In mixing bowl, cream shortening and 1 cup sugar (mix by hand). Add egg, molasses and vanilla. Mix well. Combine dry ingredients. Add to creamed mixture. Mix well. Roll into 1-inch balls. Roll in remaining sugar. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 375\u00b0 for 10 minutes or until brown. Let sit 1 minute on baking sheet after taking out of oven. Cool on wire racks.
