Ingredients

1/2 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 c. cooking oil
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
dash of salt
Preparation

Beat butter and sugar with a spoon.
Beat in egg, oil and vanilla.
Combine flour, sugar, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt; stir into butter mixture.
Chill dough 1 hour, or until easy to handle.
Shape dough into 1-inch balls.
Place on an ungreased cookie sheet; flatten to 1/4 inch with tines of fork.
Dip fork in sugar.
Bake in a 375\u00b0 oven for 6 to 8 minutes.
Makes about 40.
