4 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. salt
1/3 c. water
1/2 c. shortening
1/4 c. butter
1 1/2 c. molasses
1/4 c. brown sugar
Preparation

Sift flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon and salt onto waxpaper.
Combine water, shortening and butter in medium saucepan; heat until fats are melted.
Pour into large bowl; stir in molasses.
Add flour mixture, 1/3 at a time, blending well to make a stiff dough.
Cover bowl; chill several hours, or until firm enough to roll.
Roll out and cut with cookie cutters; sprinkle with sugar.
Bake until firm at 350\u00b0 for 7 to 8 minutes.
